Calcium acetate is a compound that is the calcium salt of acetic acid. In kidney disease, phosphate levels in the blood may increase (called hyperphosphatemia), which can lead to bone problems. Calcium acetate binds to dietary phosphate to lower phosphate levels in the blood. Calcium acetate is used as a food additive, stabilizer, buffer and chelating agent, mainly in confectionery products numbered E263. It also neutralizes fluoride in water. Calcium Acetate is one of the popular food additives and ingredients in most countries.
